November: 12th (from 6pm to 9pm)
December: 2nd, 9th, and 16th (from 1pm to 5pm)

Stony Brook car pool

At the last club meeting, some Stony Brook students mentioned that they might need a ride to/from the next meeting.

So, if there are some people who would like to offer rides and others that need rides to and from Stony Brook, you can use the comments section of this post to schedule rides and get in touch with one another.

Clocks

There were only two chess clocks in the club on the first night. That meant that only a limited number of people could participate in the 15-minute ladder… Continue Reading »

September 6th, 2007 Ladder rankings

The first club meeting’s Ladder rankings have been posted to the new Ladders page. I’m now working on the Ladder Archives page and a Ladder Guide (links to which will be posted on the same Ladders page when they’re ready).

Ladder rules change: absences

In calculating the Ladder rankings, I’ve run in to a minor but significant glitch that will require a rules change to fix. See below for the gory details as to the whys and hows.

Teaching and Talks

If anyone is interested in helping beginners (teaching the rules, giving them tips, playing through a game with them and giving them advice on how to improve), or if you’re interested in giving a talk on anything chess related at one of our upcoming club meetings, please contact the club.

Chess in the Parks

The Chess-in-the-Parks Rapid Open is scheduled to take place on September 29th, 2007, in Central Park, NYC. If there is enough interest, maybe we can make a club trip to the event. Register early!

First Meeting Report

The first club meeting just ended, and it was a great success. About 15 people showed up, lots of games were played, and everyone seems to have had fun.

A more detailed report about the meeting will be posted soon, along with the Ladder rankings.

Thanks to everyone for coming, and we hope you can come to the next meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for the 21st of this month. When the date is more firmly set, it will be announced on this web site, and through email to everyone who wrote down their email address on the sign-up sheet.
